Chung Finishes First as Broncos Complete Tri-Match

PALM SPRINGS, Calif. – Leia Chung finished first as the Boise State women's golf team placed second in its two-round tri-match The Broncos fired a 572 (+4), three strokes behind Long Beach State and 22 strokes ahead of UC Riverside. Chung finished -3, edging LBSU's Jasmine Leovao by a single stroke. She was backed by third-place finisher Elli Gordon, who was -1 over 36 holes. Teal Matsueda tied for sixth at +2, which included a team-best three-under in the second round.

"This week, although not the outcome we had hoped for in either event, was exactly what we needed to start our spring season with a good stretch of days in some warmer temperatures," said head coach Kailin Downs. "We improved in many areas as the week went on and have some very clear things to focus on before our next event. Leia, Elli and Teal had some fantastic individual rounds with the highlight being Leia's first collegiate win!"
"I'm very grateful we were able to come out here and play in such warm weather and on such beautiful golf courses," said Chung. "I was able to work on a lot of things I needed to and felt really confident throughout each day. I still have a lot of things to work on for the rest of the season but it feels great to be out here competing again."

NOTABLES

Leia Chung earned the first event victory of her career, finishing three-under at 139. This mark is tied for the sixth-lowest 36-hole total in program history.
Elli Gordon was one-under, the first time she has finished below par in her career. She was a season-best two-under during the second round.
Gordon carried the Folds of Honor bag. The senior also carried the bag for the duration of Mountain Classic Match Play.
Teal Matsueda notched a three-under 67 in the second round, tying the best mark of her career.

The Broncos go to St. George, Utah for the Pizza Hut-Lady Thunderbird Invitational. Boise State competes at Sunbrook Golf Club from March 7-9.
