INDIANAPOLIS – The Boise State gymnastics team was selected to compete in the 2024 NCAA Regional Championships, the NCAA announced during its selection show, Monday morning. The Blue and Orange will travel to the Fayetteville regional site, April 3-6.
The Broncos have qualified for regionals in each of the past 16 seasons (The regional competition was canceled in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.) The last time Boise State missed out on regionals was 2007.
Fayetteville is one of four host sites that will send two teams, an all-arounder and four event specialists to the national championships in Fort Worth, Texas, April 18-20.
The top 36 teams based on NQS are selected to participate in the 2024 NCAA Regional Championships. The NCAA selection committee will identify the top 16 teams and seed them in the bracket. Teams 17-36 will be placed geographically at one of the four regional sites. The top 12 all-around competitors and top 16 event specialists will be selected based on NQS. These individuals will be placed geographically and individuals from the same team will be kept together.
Regional sites will host the first, second and final rounds of competition over a three-day period. The first round will consist of two teams, second round will consist of eight and the regional final will consist of four.
The Blue and Orange will face BYU in the first round of the competition.
The Broncos concluded the regular season with a National Qualifying Score (NQS) of 196.715, ranking 29th. Boise State is ranked 21st on beam, posting an NQS of 49.300.
Individually, senior Emily Lopez finished the regular season as the Gymnast of the Year and Bars Specialist of the Year in the Mountain West. Lopez is tied for 20th nationally, owning an NQS of 9.930. She qualified as an individual on bars and beam.
Alongside Lopez, fifth-year Adriana Popp (beam), senior Courtney Blackson (bars and floor) and junior Emma Loyim (beam and floor) qualified for regionals as individuals.
The National Collegiate Women's Gymnastics Championships will consist of eight teams, four all-around competitors and 16 event specialists. The top two teams and the top all-around competitor (who is not advancing with a team) from each regional will receive an automatic berth to the national championships. In addition, the top event specialist in each event (not an all-arounder or advancing with a team) will advance to the national championship in that event only.
