Bronco alumnus adds title going into 2024 season

BOISE, Idaho – Boise State head football coach Spencer Danielson announced Thursday morning that wide receivers coach Matt Miller is adding passing game coordinator to his title beginning this upcoming season.

The announcement comes just days before the Broncos are set to open spring practice next week with the first of 15 spring sessions scheduled for Monday morning.

Miller and the Bronco wide receiver corps enters the spring with one of the fastest groups in the Mountain West and could rival one of the fastest groups in program history. In addition to the return of speedsters Austin Bolt and Prince Strachan, Boise State added former Indiana Hoosier Cam Camper and former Texas A&M receiver Chris Marshall, a five-star recruit in his 2022 recruiting class. The Broncos also return Latrell Caples to the gridiron this year after sitting out the 2023 season with an injury.

The Broncos receiver squad averaged 14.34 yards per reception in 2023, a mark that led the Mountain West and ranked ninth in FBS among teams with over 100 receptions.

In 2022, Boise State averaged over five yards after catch per reception, led by Caples' effort of collecting 260 of his 549 receiving yards after the catch. That dynamic performance followed Khalil Shakir's 2021 season, in which Shakir earned All-Mountain West First Team honors after leading the team in receptions (77), yards receiving (1,117) and touchdowns receiving (7) and registered four 100-yard receiving games during the season.

Miller returned to the Treasure Valley in 2020 following four seasons at Montana State where he was initially wide receivers coach before being promoted to offensive coordinator midway through the 2018 season. He was also the Bobcats' recruiting coordinator from 2017 until his promotion. Under his direction, the Bobcats reached the FCS Playoffs in 2018 and 2019.

A native of Helena, Montana, Miller began his coaching career as an offensive quality control assistant at Boise State in 2015. That followed a four-year career for the Broncos (2011-14), earning Freshman All-America honors in 2011 before garnering All-Mountain West honors in 2012 as part of the Broncos' conference championship team.

He repeated as an all-conference selection in 2013 and was the MVP of the 2013 Hawai'i Bowl. As a senior, Miller was part of another Mountain West championship team, a squad that defeated Arizona in the Fiesta Bowl.

Miller ended his playing career as Boise State's career leader in receptions (244) while ranking second in receiving yards (3,049) and third in receiving touchdowns (29).

He earned his bachelor's degree in business from Boise State in 2014 and is married to the former Sarah Baugh, a standout volleyball student-athlete for the Broncos from 2012-15. The couple now has a daughter, Charley.
