FOX to televise title game for fifth consecutive year

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – The 2024 Old Trapper Mountain West Football Championship Game will be nationally televised on FOX for the fifth consecutive year, as announced today by FOX Sports. The championship game is scheduled to kick off Friday, Dec. 6 at 6 p.m. MT/5 p.m. PT.

Boise State won the 2023 Mountain West Championship with a 44-20 win at UNLV to mark the Broncos' fifth MW title overall and fourth win in a MW Championship Game.

The Mountain West is proud to showcase its top two programs and display the accomplishments of its student-athletes in its annual title game on national television for the 12th consecutive year. The shift to Friday will provide a prime-time window for greater exposure nationally, as the Old Trapper MW Football Championship game will be one of just three title contests that day.

The Old Trapper MW Football Championship game will be hosted by the Conference team with the best winning percentage in MW play.

As the newly expanded College Football Playoff takes center stage this coming season, the Mountain West has its best opportunity to compete for a spot in the field during the CFP era. The new 12-team format will have the five highest-ranked conference champions (out of the nine FBS leagues) earning an automatic bid.

Boise State has one of the most appealing home schedules in school history this fall, with home games set against Portland State (Sept. 21), Washington state (Sept. 28), Utah State (Oct. 5), San Diego State (Nov. 2), Nevada (Nov. 9) and Oregon State (Nov. 30). Season tickets and Flex Passes remain on sale for the 2024 campaign.

Led by Spencer Danielson in his first full season, Boise State looks to become the first Mountain West program to win back-to-back championships since San Diego State did so in 2015-16. Achieving such a feat will put Boise State in the discussion for the new, expanded, 12-team College Football Playoff format beginning this fall. Last year, Danielson became the first coach in college football history to win a conference championship with an interim title.
