Broncos Beat UTSA in Three for Eighth Win

NACOGDOCHES, Texas – Boise State closed nonconference play with a sweep (27-25, 25-14, 25-22) over the UTSA Roadrunners on the final day of the SFA Invitational in Nacogdoches, Texas, on Saturday.
 
The match opened with a tight first set that went down to the wire. The Broncos had three set points before block assists by Anabel Kotzakov and Reagan Casey brought it home in extra points at 27-25.
 
Trailing 3-1, Boise State used a 5-1 run to surge ahead of the Roadrunners at 6-3 in set two. It was all Broncos after that, as they pulled away down the stretch, winning it by 11 points at 25-14.  
 
The third set was one of big momentum swings as the Broncos raced out to a 15-5 advantage only to see UTSA rally. The Roadrunners used a 14-3 run to close from 15-5 down to 19-18 up. Trailing 22-21, Boise State came back with a 4-0 run to close it out on a Kiersten Van Kirk kill to clinch the set 25-22 and the match 3-0.

 

TOP BRONCOS

  • Paige Bartsch finished with 12 kills, one service ace, three digs, and one block solo for 14 points.
  • Anabel Kotzakov matched Bartsch's kills and point totals and added one service, eight digs and two block assists.
  • Bre Mitchell recorded a team-high of 19 digs.
  • Kiki Remensperger and Lilli Etter combined for 33 assists to lead the Broncos from the setter position.

NOTABLES

  • Paige Bartsch and Breanna Mitchell were named to the SFA Invitational All-Tournament Team.
  • Bartsch's 14 points moved her to within two of tying for fourth in career points.
  • Bartsch's 12 kills moved her into sixth place all-time on the Broncos' career kills list, passing Tara Brinkerhoff (1997-2000), who had 1,241.
  • Bartsch's service ace moved her within one of 14th place on the Boise State all-time career service ace list.
  • Annie Kaminski's three blocks gave her 290 to move her into 15th on the career blocks list all-time at Boise State and into sixth during the rally-scoring era (since 2001), passing Alyssa Wissinger (2018-21), who had 289.
  • The win was the sixth sweep in eight victories for the Broncos this season.
