Dutta and Safarova to Compete in ITA All-American Championships

  • WHAT'S NEXT: The Boise State women's tennis team will be represented at the ITA All-American Championships, Sept. 25-29, in Cary, North Carolina.
  • WHO'S IN: Freshman Maya Dutta and sophomore Zdena Safarova will play together in the doubles main draw. The duo was one of 24 teams in the country to earn a direct entry.
  • MAKING THEIR MARK: Dutta and Safarova are believed to be the first Bronco pair to earn a main draw doubles direct entry in school history. Dutta is also the only freshman player in the country to earn a direct entry into the doubles main draw in this tournament.
  • THE FORMAT: Pre-qualifying play for the event began on Sept. 21, and is being followed by qualifying matches on Monday, Sept. 23 and Tuesday, Sept. 24. The main draw begins Sept. 25, where 32 doubles teams will compete in a single elimination tournament. Draws will be released following completion of the qualifying round on Sept. 24.
  • STRONG DEBUT: In their first tournament in the Blue and Orange, Dutta and Safarova finished 2-1 in doubles, and both went 3-0 in singles play.
  • REPPING THE MOUNTAIN REGION: Boise State's duo are one of two doubles teams who qualified into the main draw from the Mountain Region.
  • COMPETING WITH THE BEST: Nineteen of the 24 direct doubles qualifiers are ranked in the top-25.
  • THE PATH TO NCAA CHAMPS: The four doubles teams who make it to the semifinals will qualify for the NCAA Championship,s Nov. 19-24, in Waco, Texas.
