Boise State Heads to San Jose for Quad Meet

  • THE MEET: No. 27 Boise State will travel to San Jose, Calif., to compete against San Jose State, Sacramento State and UC Davis. The meet will start Sun, Jan. 26 at 3 p.m. MT.
  • SCOUTING THE SPARTANS: San Jose State enters the week 1-3-1, most recently tying Boise State for second place with a 195.625 at the Wasatch Classic on Jan. 20. The Broncos have gone undefeated in the last 11 matchups between the two, boasting a 38-6-2 all-time record.
  • SCOUTING THE HORNETS: Sacramento State is currently 5-0 on the season with a 194.700 season-high team score at the Sacramento State Tri on Jan. 5. The Broncos are undefeated over the Hornets under head coach Tina Bird as they look to extend their win streak to 17. Boise State leads the all-time series 23-7.
  • SCOUTING THE AGGIES: This will mark the second time this season that the Broncos and Aggies will match up. The first time the two met, Boise State defeated UC Davis 195.050-193.375 at a quad meet in Washington on Jan. 10. UC Davis has an overall record of 3-5 on the season. The Broncos hold a 12-meet win streak and lead the all-time record 25-1.
  • EVENT CHAMPIONS: Emily Lopez and Alyssa Vulaj were both crowned event champions over the weekend. Lopez earned her title after a 9.925 performance on bars at the Wasatch Classic (Jan. 20) and Vulaj was named vault champion with a score of 9.850 against No. 15 Georgia (Jan. 17).
  • THREE'S A CROWD: Lopez, Kristina Shchennikova and Vulaj each received a Mountain West Specialist of the Week accolade following their performances against No. 15 Georgia (Jan. 17) and at the Wasatch Classic (Jan. 20). Lopez claimed her fifth MW Bars Specialist of the Week honor, while Vulaj picked up conference co-vault specialist of the week, her fourth. Shchennikova was named MW Co-Freshman of the Week after a stellar performance at the Wasatch Classic where she scored a 9.850, placing third overall and first among all freshmen.
  • A NIGHT TO REMEMBER: Vulaj was the team-high scorer in all three events she competed in (vault, beam and floor) in the meet against No. 15 Georgia, Jan. 17.
  • UP AND UP: The Broncos recorded team season-highs on beam and vault with scores of 48.925 and 48.775, respectively, at the Wasatch Classic (Jan. 21). Boise State also notched a team season-high overall score of 195.625.
  • IN THE RANKINGS: Boise State in No. 24 in the RoadtToNationals team bars rankings with an average score of 48.888. The Broncos are also No. 26 in the beam rankings, boasting a 48.800 average score. The team ranked the highest in the events of all MW teams.
  • RECORD WATCH: Lopez earned her 15th-career bars win at the quad meet in Washington (Jan. 10), putting her in sole possession of third all-time for bars victories in program history. She now sits behind Emily Mulenhaupt (2018-22) in first with 22 wins and Lindsay Ward (2004-08) in second with 20.
  • PRESEASON EXPECTATIONS: Boise State came in at No. 33 in the 2025 Women's Collegiate Gymnastics Association (WCGA) Preseason Poll, the 14th time since 2010 that the Broncos have earned a preseason national ranking. The Blue and Orange received 341 points and were the only team in the Mountain West to place in the top 36.
