Boise State Outpaces New Mexico

BOISE, Idaho – Boise State women's basketball overcame a double-digit halftime deficit to rally past New Mexico, 89-80, in a high-octane contest in ExtraMile Arena on Tuesday evening. 

Trailing 54-43 at the halftime break, the Broncos (15-7, 5-4 Mountain West) outscored the Lobos (13-9, 6-3 MW) 28-10 in the third quarter to take a seven-point lead into the fourth quarter. Dani Bayes and Elodie Lalotte combined for 11 fourth-quarter points as Boise State claimed the home victory.

The Broncos had five players score in double figures in the win, with Bayes and Tatum Thompson each recording 18 points. Mya Hansen poured in 17 points for the squad, while Natalie Pasco finished with 16. Lalotte added 10 points and eight rebounds.

Thompson opened the contest with back-to-back baskets, and Bayes followed with a 3-pointer to give the Blue and Orange a quick 7-0 lead. The Lobos regrouped quickly, tying the game at 12 midway through the opening frame. New Mexico made five 3-pointers and shot 60% from the floor in the opening period to take a 30-20 lead after the first 10 minutes of action.

Hansen shouldered the load for the Blue and Orange in the second period. The junior totaled 13 points in the quarter, and helped the Broncos tie the game at 38 midway through the stanza. The Lobos responded in turn, outscoring Boise State 16-5 in the remainder of the half to secure a 54-43 halftime lead.

The Broncos wasted no time getting back into the game. Pasco drilled a pair of 3-pointers, Thompson converted two baskets, and Abby Muse hit a reverse layup to cap a 10-0 Bronco run to tie the game at 58 just minutes into the second half. Boise State locked in defensively, holding the Lobos to 26.7% shooting in the frame and claiming a seven-point advantage heading into the final frame.

Bayes opened the final quarter with back-to-back buckets, but the Lobos cut the lead to five with 7:32 to play. Bayes and Lalotte helped the Broncos grow their lead to double digits on the next two possessions. New Mexico cut the lead to seven with under a minute to play, but Boise State secured its 15th win of the season from the charity stripe.

- Tatum Thompson finished with 18 points, nine rebounds, five assists and four steals.
- Dani Bayes scored seven of her 18 points in the fourth quarter. The junior shot 7-of-12 from the floor and drilled a season-high four 3-pointers.
- Mya Hansen shot 5-of-10 from the floor, including 3-of-4 from beyond the arc, to finish with 17 points.
- Natalie Pasco shot 4-of-6 from beyond the arc and finished with 16 points.
