
Boise State Defeats New Mexico to Clinch Mountain West Tournament Bid

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – First half goals from Sophie Schmautz and Madie Donovan helped guide Boise State to a 2-1 win over New Mexico, Sunday in women's soccer action.
With the win, the Broncos (8-3-6, 6-0-2 MW) clinched a spot in the Mountain West Championship. Boise State leads the conference with 20 points and will host the tournament at Boas Soccer Complex, Nov. 2-8.

The Lobos (7-3-5, 3-1-3) entered Sunday as the only other undefeated team in MW play.

Schmautz struck in the 22nd minute from outside the box. Kenzie MacMillan was credited with the assist. MacMillan collected her eighth of the season and 18th of her career.

In the 39th minute, Donovan extended the Bronco lead from the left side of the box. Kaitlyn Slocum registered her first assist at Boise State.

New Mexico cut the deficit in half at the 59th minute mark. Ava de Leest and the Bronco defense stood tall the rest of the way.

Boise State held a 14-12 edge in shots, while leading 9-4 following the first half. The Broncos also recorded a 6-4 advantage in corner kicks.
