BOISE, Idaho — Boise State Esports fell 2-0 to Syracuse on Wednesday night at the Boise State Esports Arena in a closely contested Super Smash Bros. Ultimate series. The loss marked the Broncos' second of the season and evened the all-time series between the two programs at three wins apiece.
Game 1 opened with Syracuse's Syrup setting the tone. Coming off a loss to Michigan last week, Syrup responded with a strong performance by defeating Boise State's first player to start the match. The Broncos regrouped, taking a win in the following match up to shift momentum, but Syracuse quickly countered. Effective use of Donkey Kong's power disrupted Boise State's Banjo and Kazooie, and the Orange finished the game on top.
Game 2 began with Boise State in control. Early plays gave the Broncos a narrow lead, minimizing stock losses and forcing Syracuse into more careful exchanges. As the game progressed, however, match ups favored Syracuse. The Orange rallied to claim the final stocks and close out the contest. Both games ended with the same score line, 12-8, reflecting how tight the series remained despite Syracuse's sweep.
The result moved Syracuse ahead in the PEC standings while Boise State looks to regroup after a tough home loss. With last season's series split fresh in memory, this match up once again highlighted the growing rivalry between the programs.
