Broncos Lose in Five at Utah State

LOGAN, Utah – Boise State and Utah State entered Saturday as two of the four remaining undefeated teams in Mountain West play.

In the end, the Aggies (7-7, 4-0) maintained their share of first place with a 25-19, 22-25, 25-27, 25-18, 15-11 win over the visiting Broncos (11-4, 3-1).

In the opening set, Utah State built an early four-point lead. Boise State used a 4-0 spurt to tie the set at 15, capped by a block from Jazmine Smith and Kayla Smith. However, the Aggies closed the set on a 10-4 run.

The Broncos never trailed in set two and led by as many as seven. Jazmine Smith and Eliza Sharp each had four kills in the set.

The third set featured seven ties and three lead changes before the Aggies bult a five-point lead at 18-13. After the teams traded three points each, two kills by Jazmine Smith and a Utah State error cut the Broncos' deficit to 21-19.

Boise State trailed 23-20 and then tied the score on a pair of kills by Arianna Bilby sandwiched around a Utah State error.

The Broncos staved off two set points before Kailyn Jager and Sydney Dreves each registered a kill to give Boise State a 2-1 advantage.

In the fourth set, there were eight ties and neither team led by more than two points until Utah State used a 9-4 run to tie the match.
