Broncos Swept by Rams

FORT COLLINS, Colo. – Arianna Bilby and Jazi Smith each reached double figures in kills in a 25-22, 25-19, 26-24 Mountain West women's volleyball loss at Colorado State, Thursday.

Bilby recorded two of her team-high 11 kills to help the Broncos (11-5, 3-2 MW) take a 4-2 lead in the opening set. The Rams (10-5, 4-1) gained their first lead at 6-5 and built a seven-point advantage on a pair of occasions.

Trailing 19-12, Boise State went on a 9-3 run to close within 22-21. Kailyn Jager had two kills and two block assists and Sydney Dreves added a pair of kills and a block solo during the spurt. Colorado State took advantage of a couple of Boise State errors to close out the set.

The Broncos never led in the second set and trailed by as many as seven. Bilby had five kills in the set.

Boise State fell behind 6-2 in set three before a kill by Jazi Smith, a service ace by Elle Cotton and a pair of Colorado State errors tied the score 6-6. The Rams built a 15-10 lead, but the Broncos went on an 11-4 run to go on top 21-19.

Bridey O'Connor came off the bench to spark the rally with a block assist and three-straight kills that tied the set a 19. Bilby capped the run with back-to-back kills.

After the teams traded points, the Rams scored the next three to lead 23-22. A kill by Eliza Sharp tied the score and she added another to stave off match point at 24-23 before two-straight points by Colorado State closed out the match.
