Broncos Fall to Aztecs

SAN DIEGO – Boise State suffered its second consecutive loss on Saturday night, losing to San Diego State, 17-7, at Snapdragon Stadium. 

With the victory, the Aztecs (8-2, 5-1 Mountain West) claim sole possession of first place in the league standings. The Broncos (6-4, 4-2 MW) drop to a tie for second place with two games remaining on the schedule. The conference championship game will take place on Dec. 5. 

The game primarily played out on the ground, with both teams attempting over 40 rushes. San Diego State managed 277 yards on the ground, while Boise State finished with 164. The Broncos won the attack in the air, recording 104 passing yards to the Aztecs' 17.

San Diego State put points on the scoreboard first, finding the end zone a little over a minute into the second frame. The Broncos responded on the ensuing kickoff, putting together a 15-play, 75-yard drive culminating with a Dylan Riley touchdown from nine yards out to even the score at seven. 

The Aztecs scored their second touchdown of the night inside the final two minutes of the half to take a 14-7 advantage at intermission.

Neither team was able to score in the third quarter, but San Diego State made it a two-possession game with 10:51 left in the contest with a 47-yard field goal.

The Broncos made a late push in the fourth quarter, but failed to convert a field goal under the two-minute timeout.

Top Broncos
- Ty Benefield matched his career-high with 11 tackles.
- Marco Notarainni, Boen Phelps and Jake Ripp each finished with eight tackles.
- Dylan Riley finished with one touchdown and 79 yards.
- Latrell Caples recorded a career-high seven receptions.
 
Notables  
- Boise State held San Diego State to 17 passing yards, the lowest the Broncos have allowed in their FBS era (1996).
- The Broncos have allowed 52 passing yards in their last two contests.
- Ty Benefield has recorded 11 tackles in three separate contests this season, making him the first Bronco with three games of 11+ tackles since Alexander Teubner did so in 2023. Benefield is the ninth Bronco to achieve this feat since 2005.

What's Next
Boise State gears up for its final home contest of the season on Saturday, Nov. 22 against Colorado State. The game will be broadcast nationally on FS1 with an official kickoff time announced on Sunday, Nov. 16.
