Broncos Win Season Opener

BOISE, Idaho – Boise State sophomore Libby Hutton tied her career high with 15 points and the Broncos posted a 59-51 season-opening win over Eastern Oregon, Monday.

In her first-career start, Hutton pulled down a career-high 10 rebounds for her first-career double-double. Her points tied for game-high honors.

Tatum Thompson just missed a double-double with 13 points and nine rebounds and fellow senior Dani Bayes added 10 points.

The first quarter saw five lead changes with all-five Boise State starters scoring, but the Mountaineers led 14-13 after 10 minutes. Eastern Oregon never trailed in the second quarter and took a 26-23 advantage into the break.

The Mountaineers scored on their first-two possessions of the second half to increase their lead to seven and still led 38-33 midway through the period. Boise State then went on a 10-0 run that included a go-ahead pullup jumper by senior Mya Hansen with 2:42 left in the quarter. The Broncos held a 43-40 lead entering the fourth quarter.

After the team traded buckets, Boise State put the game away with a 7-0 run to go up 52-42 with 6:12 remaining. Thompson started the spurt with a traditional 3-point play and capped it with a pair of free throws.
