Boise State Notches Third-Straight Win

BOISE, Idaho — Boise State collected its third-straight victory on Wednesday night, defeating Duquesne, 86-64, at ExtraMile Arena.

The Broncos (7-3) had two players who scored 20-plus points. Pearson Carmichael led all players with a career-high 26 points, while Drew Fielder notched 23.

Javan Buchanan added 15 points and made two of his three-point shots in 26 minutes of game action. Andrew Meadow pitched in with eight points.

Duquesne (6-4) was led by Jakub Necas, who totaled a team-high 13 points. Jimmie Williams and John Hugley IV each scored 11 in the game.

Aided by an efficient offensive start, Boise State scored 11 of the opening 15 points in the game and made five of its first nine shots from the floor. Fielder and Meadow combined for 11 points in five minutes, and the Broncos led by seven upon reaching the first media timeout.

Halfway through the period, Carmichael came off the bench and provided instant offense for Boise State. Netting two three-pointers and a hook shot in the lane, Carmichael had a stretch where he scored eight-consecutive points for the Broncos.

With seven minutes remaining in the half, Boise State extended its lead to double figures. Buchanan and Fielder poured in back-to-back long balls, giving the Broncos a 15-point advantage.

Never trailing in the frame, Boise State was hot from long range. The team shot a collective 62 percent from three, making eight of 13 attempts in 20 minutes.

In the session, Carmichael made five threes and led all players with 19 points in the first half. Fielder added 11 points of his own, and the Broncos led, 45-30, at the intermission.

To start the second half, Duquesne tallied four quick points and trimmed the Boise State lead to 11. In response, the Broncos scored eight of the next 10 points and forced a prompt timeout by the Dukes.

With just under five minutes left to play in the game, Boise State upped its lead to 20. Buchanan netted his second trifecta of the evening to put the Broncos ahead 74-54.

Boise State posted its largest lead of the game in the final 90 seconds of the contest. Aginaldo Neto made a pair of free throws to give the Broncos an 83-58 lead.

In total, Boise State 47 percent from the floor, 57 percent from three and 90 percent at the charity stripe. The Broncos led for nearly 39 minutes in the game and scored on 52.2 percent of their possessions.
