ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – Boise State opened conference play with a loss at The Pit as New Mexico pulled away for a 70-63 victory.

After a rocky first quarter, Boise State (9-3, 0-1 Mountain West) attempted a comeback, but it came up short as the Lobos (9-3, 1-0) earned their sixth home win.

New Mexico opened the game on a 14-0 run, with six different players scoring during the stretch. Tatum Thompson blocked two shots, while Kenna Garza added another. Boise State got on the board with just under two minutes left in the first quarter when Thompson made a layup, but New Mexico led 17-4 at the end of the period.

The Broncos answered in the second quarter, opening on an 11-0 run and holding the Lobos scoreless for more than four minutes. Morgan Maldonado and Natalie Pasco led the surge, each knocking down a 3-pointer. Boise State took its first lead with two and a half minutes left in the half but trailed 30-27 at halftime.

At the break, Pasco and Libby Hutton led Boise State with seven and six points, respectively. Joana Magalhaes paced New Mexico with eight points and three steals.

Boise State stayed steady in the third quarter, hitting six consecutive field goals. Pasco drilled a key 3-pointer to give the Broncos a 48-47 lead heading into the final period, as Boise State outscored New Mexico 21-17.

The fourth quarter opened with a 3-pointer from Dani Bayes off a New Mexico turnover, but the Lobos responded with a 12-0 run. New Mexico pulled away by outscoring the Broncos 23-15 in the final period to secure the win.

Quotables
"We dug a hole for ourselves and battled back," head coach Gordy Presnell said. "I was pleased how some of the freshmen competed and really got after it. We worked so hard but turned it over too many times in the fourth quarter. There were a lot of positives we can pull away from this game. We just need to play better at the beginning and eliminate some of the mistakes."

What's Next
  • Boise State will travel to California to take on San Diego State on Dec. 20 at 2 p.m. MT.
