Broncos Split in Mexico

2/13/2025 2:59:00 PM | Softball

PUERTO VALLARTA, Mexico – Brooklyn Thompson pitched a two-hit shutout against North Dakota State and Boise State split two games during its first day of the Puerto Vallarta College Challenge.

The Broncos (5-2) posted an 8-0 win in six innings over the Bison (3-4) for their third run-rule victory of the year. Boise State lost 4-2 FIU (5-1) in the first game of the day.

Against North Dakota State, Thompson (3-0) walked one and struck out four. She did not allow a runner past second base and faced one batter over the minimum thanks to a caught stealing and a double play.

Boise State provided her all the offense it needed in the first when Sydney Groves and Brooklynn Pettis delivered back-to-back singles for a 2-0 lead.

The Broncos added to their advantage on a two-out, RBI-single by Hollie Farmer in the third and an error by the Bison in the fourth that allowed Skylar Stroh to score.

Megan Lake's two-out, two-run single in the fifth made the score 6-0 and Boise State finished the game in the sixth on a bases loaded walk to Groves and a steal of home by Mykenzie Hanna.

In the opener, Boise State got off to a quick start when Lake knocked in Sophia Knight with a two-out single in the first.

After the Panthers tied the game, Farmer's two-out, run-scoring single in the third put Boise State back in front, 2-1.

FIU tied the game in the fifth and won it with two runs in the seventh.

Boise State faces Indiana (6 p.m. CT/5 p.m. MT) and BYU (8:30 p.m. CT/7:30 p.m. MT), Friday in its first night games of the season.
