Surging Broncos Down Utah State for Seventh Win in Eight Games

BOISE, Idaho — Benefiting from a balanced scoring attack, Boise State downed Utah State, 82-65, on Wednesday night at ExtraMile Arena.
 
The Broncos (20-8, 12-5 Mountain West) secured their 12th 20-win season under Head Coach Leon Rice. Boise State has won seven of its last eight and earned a split in the two games against the Aggies (24-5, 14-4 MW) this season.
 
Tyson Degenhart paced all scorers with a game-high 21 points. He tallied his 28th career 20-point game, placing him in a tie for the fourth most such games in program history.
 
Andrew Meadow followed his career-high 24-point performance against Nevada with a 17-point effort against Utah State. He shot 5-of-9 from the floor and added five rebounds in the contest.
 
Alvaro Cardenas stuffed the stat sheet and posted 16 points, six rebounds and seven assists. O'Mar Stanley added 10 points and four rebounds off the bench.
 
Mason Falslev led the way for the Aggies, recording a team-high 19 points. Deyton Albury collected 11 points, while Ian Martinez pitched in with 10.
 
The outset of Wednesday's game featured efficient offense by both teams. Upon reaching the first media timeout, the Broncos and Aggies combined to shoot 8-of-13, with Boise State owning a slim, 10-9, lead.
 
Following the stoppage, the Broncos rattled off seven consecutive points to go ahead by eight. Boise State led by that margin on a couple occasions which served as its largest advantage of the half.
 
Ahead 24-16 with 9:48 to play in the period, the Broncos surrendered 11 of the next 13 points and turned an eight-point lead into a one-point deficit. The team's deficit lasted for only 90 seconds, as Degenhart buried a three to put Boise State back in front.
 
Across the final six minutes of the frame, the Broncos outscored Utah State 11-4. Cardenas and Pearson Carmichael totaled 15 points and aided Boise State to a 37-31 advantage at halftime.
 
After an evenly played first six minutes of the second half, Stanley scored on back-to-back possessions to give the Broncos an 11-point lead. The consecutive buckets proved to be the boost Boise State needed as the team never looked backed.
 
The Broncos collected their largest lead of the game with 1:48 left to play. Degenhart poured in his second three which pushed Boise State ahead by 21.

Collectively, the team shot 48 percent and limited the Aggies to 42 percent shooting. Surrendering only 65 points, the Broncos held Utah State 17 points under its season average (82.5).
 
Boise State will have two days off before returning to action on Saturday evening. The Broncos travel to Fresno to take on the Bulldogs at 5 p.m. MT at Save Mart Center.

Boise State collected its 22nd win all time against the Aggies and are 17-11 against Utah State at home.
 
Recording their 20th win, the Broncos have totaled 12, 20-win seasons under Head Coach Leon Rice.
