Javan Buchanan selected as conference’s Sixth Man of the Year
BOISE, Idaho — Tyson Degenhart, Alvaro Cardenas and Javan Buchanan earned All-Mountain West honors, the conference announced on Tuesday.
Â
Degenhart and Cardenas were selected to the All-Mountain West first and second team, respectively. Buchanan was named the conference's Sixth Man of the Year.
Â
Alongside Degenhart, Nique Clifford (Colorado State), Donovan Dent (New Mexico), Nelly Junior Joseph (New Mexico) and Ian Martinez (Utah State) were first-team selections. Nick Boyd (San Diego State), Miles Byrd (San Diego State), Nick Davidson (Nevada) and Mason Falslev (Utah State) join Cardenas as second-team honorees.
Â
Among all conference participants, Boise State and Utah State were the only two teams with at least one representative on the first and second team.
Â
TYSON DEGENHART:
Â
Degenhart's first-team selection marks the third time he's garnered the distinction. Earning the honor in 2023 and 2024, Degenhart is the first Bronco to take home Mountain West first-team accolades three times in his career.
Â
Since the Mountain West's inception in 1999, there have only been two players selected to the first team in three consecutive years—Degenhart and Jimmer Fredette (BYU, 2008-11).
Â
In program history, two other Broncos have been named a three-time, first-team conference selection. Chris Childs (1987-89) and Tanoka Beard (1991-93) both earned first-team All-Big Sky honors in three of their four years at Boise State.
Â
This season, Degenhart has started all 31 games and averaged 17.8 points and 6.1 rebounds while shooting 51.7 percent from the field. The conference's third leading scorer, Degenhart joins Clifford as the only Mountain West players to average at least 17 points and six rebounds.
Â
Putting together a decorated career with countless recognition and milestones, Degenhart currently ranks fourth in program history in points scored. He is 32 away from surpassing Beard for the most all time.

ALVARO CARDENAS:
Â
Collecting his first all-conference honor, Cardenas is the 12th different Bronco to earn Mountain West second-team accolades. Boise State has had at least one representative named to the conference's second team in six consecutive years.
Â
In his first season as a Bronco, Cardenas has posted averages of 12.0 points, 3.4 rebounds, 6.9 assists and 1.5 steals. He is just the fourth player in Mountain West history with those numbers, joining Darius Brown II (Utah State; 2023-24), Grant Sherfield (Nevada; 2020-21) and Mark Dickel (UNLV; 1999-2000).
Â
Among all players in men's college basketball, Cardenas is tied for sixth in assists (213) and ranks eighth in assists per game (6.9). He owns Boise State's single-season record and is just the ninth player in Mountain West history to record at least 200 helpers in a campaign.
Â
The team's leading passer in 30 of the 31 games, Cardenas has notched double-digit assists in four contests. That number is tied with Dent for the most in the conference.
Â
With 585 career assists, Cardenas currently ranks fourth on the Mountain West's all-time leaderboard. He is 15 away from 600, which would make him just the fourth player in conference history to reach that number.
