BOISE, Idaho – Carson Baker's win at No. 3 singles clinched Boise State's 5-2 victory over Utah State on Friday in the Broncos' Mountain West opener. The contest started at the Appleton Tennis Center, but rain forced the match indoors to the Boas Indoor Tennis Center.

The 41st-ranked Broncos improved to 15-4 overall and 1-0 in conference, while Utah State moved to 10-7 and 1-1, respectively.

The Blue and Orange opened by claiming the team doubles point 2-0. The first team off was on court two, where Taiyo Kurata and Julius Seifert cruised to a 6-2 win. They were followed by the No. 3 team of Idriss Haddouch and James Van Herzeele, who secured a 6-3 victory to clinch the team point.

John Chin extended the Boise State lead with a straight-set victory at No. 6 singles, 6-3, 6-1. Then, after USU had closed the gap to 2-1, Haddouch moved the Blue and Orange to within one point of victory when he took court five 7-6(4), 4-6, 6-3 to make it 3-1 Boise State.
