
Broncos Eliminated from Mountain West Softball Championship

SAN DIEGO – Boise State suffered a season-ending 6-1 loss at San Diego State at the 2025 Mountain West Softball Championship, Friday.

A pair of San Diego State (34-17) pitchers limited the Broncos (34-22) to four hits.

The Aztecs scored four runs in the first inning, three of which came on a fly ball that bounced in and out of the glove of center fielder Sophia Knight and over the wall for a three-run home run.

Boise State trailed 5-0 in the third and loaded the bases with one out. The Broncos failed to score when Brooklynn Pettis popped up and Leah McAnally grounded out.

The Broncos got on the board in the fourth. Megan Lake singled and Sydney Groves walked. With two outs, Knight and Mykenzie Hanna were each hit by a pitch to force in a run and bring the tying run to the plate. Makenzie Butt, the 2025 MW Freshman of the Year, flied out to end the inning.

San Diego State added a run in the fifth and Boise State went down in order in each of that last-three innings. The Broncos ended their season 34-22.

- Mykenzie Hanna batted .556 (5-for-9) with a .667 on-base percentage and was named all-tournament.
- Sophia Knight was hitless, but still leads the NCAA with 103 hits, tied for 19th in NCAA single-season history.
- Knight set a school and Mountain West record with a .486 batting average.
- Knight's career marks in batting average (.445) and on-base percentage (.482) are currently tops in Boise State history.
- Megan Lake collected two hits for her 16th-multi-hit game of the season.
- Brook Thompson recorded a 0.78 ERA and .194 batting average against in nine innings and was named all-tournament.
