Broncos Earn Four Regional Awards
BOISE, Idaho – Boise State women's tennis head coach Beck Roghaar was named the 2025 Intercollegiate Tennis Association's Mountain Region Head Coach of the Year, the ITA announced Tuesday.
Â
Additionally, assistant coach Errol Smith earned Assistant Coach of the Year honors. Bhakti Shah received the Arthur Ashe Leadership & Sportsmanship Award, and the team was recognized with the ITA Community Service Award for a second consecutive season.
Â
Roghaar is only the second head coach in Boise State history to earn the region's top coaching honor and the first in 15 years. Mark Tichenor won the award twice, in 2006 and 2010. This marks Roghaar's second major coaching accolade of the season, having been named the 2024-25 Mountain West Coach of the Year in May.
Â
"I'm honored and humbled to be recognized by my peers in the Mountain Region as the coach of the year," Roghaar said. "Our tennis coaches here and most importantly our players make doing what I do every day an absolute joy."
Â
Smith, in his second season as an assistant coach, becomes the third Boise State assistant to earn this recognition, following Morgan Shepherd (1999) and Jared Burnham (2002).
Â
"This award for Errol is earned and deserved," said Roghaar. "I'm so happy for him to receive some recognition for his unmatched energy and passion that he pours into our program and student-athletes every day. He's an absolute joy to be around, and I'm incredibly proud of him and who he is as a coach and excited for the future with him as a Bronco."
Â
Roghaar and Smith earned the honors after guiding the team to its first MW Conference Tournament Championship and a 20-6 record, the program's seventh 20-win season and its first since 2010. The team also qualified for the NCAA Tournament, where it won its first-round match against No. 22 Baylor, 4-3. This marked the first NCAA Tournament victory for Boise State since 2010 and its highest-ranked win since defeating No. 21 Iowa in 2010.
Â
Shah, who graduated with a degree in business administration, received the Arthur Ashe Leadership Award. The award honors athletes who have demonstrated excellence in leadership, academics, extracurricular activities and tennis. Shah is the first Boise State athlete to receive this prestigious recognition.
Throughout her career, Shah maintained a winning record in both singles and doubles. She also served on the Student-Athlete Advisory Council and participated in numerous campus activities.
Â
Additionally, she was active in the Indian Student Association, where she served as treasurer and helped organize the group's fall festival. Recently, Shah was named one of the Boise State College of Business and Economics' (COBE) Outstanding Graduates for 2025. She finished her career as a three-time ITA Scholar-Athlete, three-time MW Scholar-Athlete, and an Academic All-MW selection.
Â
"I can't think of a more deserving person for this award than Bhakti Shah," said Roghaar. "She's been a constant servant leader throughout her time at Boise State. What our program has been building and been able to accomplish is without a doubt directly connected to all that she's done each and every day to help lead her sisters in this program in the right ways. I know she's ready to go out and take on the world and I'm so excited to see what her experiences here translate into."
Â
For the fourth time in program history, and for the second consecutive season, the team also earned the Mountain Region Community Service Award. In total, the team recorded over 100 hours of volunteer service, including work with the Ada County Juvenile Court System, Make-A-Wish, and various BroncoLife events.
Â
"This community is incredibly special and it's a huge part of what makes playing tennis at Boise State," said Roghaar. "We're honored and humbled to be able to serve the people here in the community and continue to grow the relationship between Boise State tennis and Boise."
