Boise State and Idaho Agree to Play Exhibition Game

BOISE, Idaho — Boise State and Idaho have agreed to play an exhibition game prior to the start of the 2025-26 season, it was announced on Tuesday.

"We appreciate Coach Rice and our coaching staff as well as Terry Gawlik and Coach Pribble for working together and creating this experience for our fan bases in downtown Boise," said Jeramiah Dickey, Boise State Director of Athletics. "Our partners at Idaho Central Arena have been great hosts for us in regular season games in the past, and what better place to see this rivalry come back to life in what will be a great weekend across Boise State Athletics.

"It's always What's Next, and we look forward to continuing to work with Idaho and other schools in this state on opportunities in all sports to create even more notable games to watch and attend. We all have a seat at the table to make the state of Idaho even better through in-state matchups."

Taking place at Idaho Central Arena (233 S. Capital Blvd.), the Broncos and Vandals will face off on Friday, Oct. 17. Game time is currently scheduled for 7 p.m. MT.

Though an exhibition game prior to the start of the 2025-26 season, Boise State and Idaho are common opponents. The two teams competed against each other every year from 1971-2014, and with 89 games played in the all-time series, the Broncos own a 54-35 record in those contests.

"When discussing potential opportunities to get our fans excited for the start of the season, this was a no brainer," head coach Leon Rice said. "The state of Idaho is filled with knowledgeable and passionate basketball fans, and what better way to serve them than with the return of in-state basketball between the Broncos and Vandals.

"We extend our sincerest appreciation to Coach Pribble, the Idaho men's basketball staff and all who worked tirelessly to make this possible. The excitement for the upcoming season is palpable, and this game serves as a launching pad and a unique opportunity for all Idahoans."

Presale tickets for Lyle Smith Society members and BAA members/season-ticket holders will go on sale Aug. 19 and Aug. 22, respectively. The general public can begin purchasing tickets on Sept. 9.
