Boise, Idaho — After a summer of major changes for Boise State Esports, the Broncos are gearing up for the second season of competition in the Power Esports Conference (PEC). Joined by teams like Michigan State, Kansas, Utah, Minnesota, Ohio State, and more, Boise State has its sights set on more hardware, after reigning victorious in Overwatch and Rocket League last year. The Broncos, led by legendary coach Doc Haskell, return over 80% of their starting lineup from the past season across all games.
New Foes, Same Goals
Conference realignment reaches all facets of college athletics, and the PEC is no exception. Oklahoma and USC stepped away from the league this summer after one season, while Balyor, Minnesota, and Utah joined the ranks during the summer break. Baylor, the nation's newest Division I esports program, recently released plans for a multi-million dollar facility and a large-scale investment in esports. Utah, on the other hand, is credited with being one of the original Division I esports programs, with A.J. Dimick at the helm. The Utes were identified by ESPN as the first Power 5 program to offer varsity esports.
Run it Back
The Broncos have a litany of key pieces returning for the 2025-26 season, with players like Emiliano Flores (Rocket League), Jonathan Foraker (Overwatch 2), Griffin Applegate (Valorant), and Eric Labastida (Super Smash Bros Ultimate) all set to help lead their team into the crucible of competition. "My job as a coach is easy when you have this much talent, when your players are this good," says assistant coach Kelsey Moser. Entering into her second year with the program after successful stints at professional organizations like Evil Geniuses and 100Thieves, Moser knows a few things about building and retaining talented rosters.
More Ways to Get Involved
The PEC will launch an official website and social media channels going into this coming year, giving fans more access to the revolutionary league. Details on these platforms will be released at a later date, but for now, fans can stay up to date with all things PEC on all Boise State Esports social media platforms.
