No. 25 Boise State Drops Season Opener

TAMPA, Fla. – No. 25 Boise State opened its 2025 campaign with a 34-7 road loss to USF on Thursday.

The Broncos (0-1) notched the first score of the game late in the first quarter, but the Bulls (1-0) responded with 34 unanswered points to claim the victory.

Boise State got on the board first. After the Broncos earned a fourth-down stop in the Bulls' own territory, the Blue and Orange powered through a nine-play, 38-yard scoring drive. Maddux Madsen found Chris Marshall for a six-yard touchdown reception for the first Bronco touchdown of the season.

USF responded, earning a spot on the scoreboard with a 52-yard field goal on the ensuing drive. The Bulls took the lead with an 8-play, 80-yard touchdown drive midway through the quarter to take a 10-7 lead at intermission. 

USF took a double-digit lead with a 45-yard touchdown pass off a fake punt midway through the third quarter. The Bulls continued the attack with touchdowns on back-to-back drives to claim a 31-7 advantage in the final frame. 

Top Broncos
- Maddux Madsen threw for 225 yards and one touchdown. He found 10 different receivers in the contest. 
- Latrell Caples, Ben Ford and Matt Lauter each recorded four receptions. 
- Jayden Virgin-Morgan led the team with eight tackles.
- Braxton Fely added six tackles, including 1.5 sacks.
 
Notables  
- Chris Marshall recorded the first touchdown of his career. The redshirt junior found the end zone in his 11th career game, fifth game at Boise State, and his first game since Oct. 25, 2025 at UNLV.
- Ben Ford recorded career highs in receptions (four) and yards (44).
- Boise State has recorded at least 90 yards passing and 90 yards rushing for 39 consecutive games, the longest active streak in the country.

What's Next
Boise State welcomes Eastern Washington to Albertsons Stadium at 7 p.m. MT on Friday, Sept. 5 for its home opener. The game will be streamed on FS1.
