BOISE, Idaho – Former Boise State defensive end Sam McCaskill will hoist the Blue Chaos Flag ahead of the Broncos' home opener against Eastern Washington on Friday night at Albertsons Stadium.
Â
McCaskill (2012-16) played an integral role in the Broncos' 2014 Fiesta Bowl victory, recording four tackles and 1.5 tackles for loss in the 38-30 win over No. 12 Arizona. Over his career, he appeared in 50 games and earned All-Mountain West First Team honors in 2016, leading the team in tackles for loss (14.0).
Â
As a senior, McCaskill was named team captain. The Eugene, Oregon, native finished his career with 100 tackles, 20.5 tackles for loss, and 10.5 sacks.
Â
"I am extremely grateful to help bring the noise to start the new season," McCaskill said. "I'm not one for recognition, but this is a true honor."
Â
After his Boise State career, McCaskill signed as an undrafted free agent with the Minnesota Vikings following the 2017 NFL Draft and spent the summer competing in Minnesota.
Â
"Bronco Nation embodies the spirit of Boise State," McCaskill added. "It's a passionate, inspired fan base that stands behind its team. The Blue is a tremendous competitive advantage, but the noise is what really makes Albertsons Stadium a hostile environment."
