Maile Promoted to Defensive Line Assistant Coach

BOISE, Idaho – Frank Maile has been promoted to the defensive line assistant coach, head coach Spencer Danielson announced on Tuesday.
Maile spent last season assisting the defensive line for the Broncos. Under his leadership, Boise State generated a Mountain West-best 45 tackles for loss, and was third in the league in total defense (337.6 yards per game) and in forced turnovers (23). The Broncos held opponents under 250 yards on four occasions.
Under Maile's guidance, Braxton Fely followed up his 2024 campaign with another standout season. The defensive lineman totaled 24 tackles on the season, including 6.5 tackles for loss and 5.5 sacks. Fely earned a second team all-conference nod for the second consecutive year for his efforts.
Maile returned to Boise State in February 2025 after working for two seasons at Washington State (2023-24). In his first season with the Cougars, he coached Brennan Jackson to an All-Pac 12 Second Team honor and a fifth round pick in the 2024 NFL Draft. Maile also mentored Ron Stone Jr., who earned All-Pac 12 honors in 2023 after totaling 11 TFLs and 5.0 sacks.
In his first stint at Boise State (2021-22), Maile oversaw the defensive line while additionally serving as the assistant head coach. In 2022, he helped the unit finish the year ninth in the country in total defense, sixth in pass defense and 16th in scoring defense. He tutored Scott Matlock, who was selected by the Los Angeles Chargers in the sixth round of the 2023 NFL Draft.
Prior to Boise State, Maile spent five years at his alma mater, Utah State. He made his presence felt with the Aggies, leading the unit to a nation's best 32 forced turnovers and 22 interceptions in 2018. His defense consistently ranked among the top 25 nationally in scoring, rushing and total defense. Maile coached seven All-MW performers during his tenure at Utah State and two players who went on to play in the NFL in Ricky Ali'ifua and Caleb Repp.
He spent two years at Vanderbilt from 2014-15, where his unit ranked top 35 nationally in nine defensive categories. Maile began his coaching career at Utah State in 2009 and helped the Aggies win a 2012 Western Athletic Conference Championship. As a player, he was a team captain and four-year letterwinner for the Aggies (2004-07).
