Broncos Lose in Overtime

LAS VEGAS — In an overtime thriller, Boise State fell to UNLV, 89-85, on Tuesday night at Thomas & Mack Center.

The Broncos (9-8, 1-5 Mountain West) were led by Drew Fielder and Andrew Meadow, who posted 20-point games. Fielder notched a team high 23 points and added seven rebounds, while Meadow recorded 21 points, six boards and two steals.

Dylan Andrews had 14 points, two rebounds, four assists and one steal, and Pearson Carmichael added 14 points off the bench.

Dra Gibbs-Lawhorn paced all players with a game-high 33 points for UNLV (8-8, 2-3 MW). Howie Fleming Jr. collected 17 points and four assists, and Kimani Hamilton pitched in with 16 points and five rebounds.

In the first four minutes of Tuesday's game, both Boise State and UNLV made three field goals and scored eight points. Three Broncos tallied one field goal apiece in that span, with Fielder scoring four of the Broncos' first eight points.

The opening 10 minutes of the first half featured minimal separation by either team. There were seven ties and seven lead changes before Boise State scored six quick points in less than a minute.

With four and a half minutes remaining in the period, the Broncos grabbed their largest lead of the 20-minute session. Assisted by Andrews, Spencer Ahrens knocked down a long three-pointer, giving Boise State a 30-23 advantage.

Overcoming the largest first-half deficit by either team, the Runnin' Rebels put together a 10-2 spurt and forged ahead by one. Tied at 37 with under 30 seconds in the frame, UNLV extended its lead to three on a long ball.

On the ensuing possession, Dominic Parolin capped the half on a layup as the clock expired. In total, the Broncos shot 50 percent from the floor but trailed, 40-39, at the intermission.

 In similar fashion to the first half, the two teams seesawed back and forth for the opening four-plus minutes. Heading toward the under-12 media timeout, the Runnin' Rebels scored seven of nine points and opened a five-point lead, their largest of the evening.

Withstanding the UNLV run, the Broncos scored seven straight points to go ahead 62-60. Boise State went ahead by four before the Runnin' Rebels totaled five unanswered points to retake the lead with 2:32 remaining in the game.

Down three with eight seconds on the clock, Fielder came up big for the Broncos. He knocked down his first triple of the game and sent the game to overtime tied at 76.
