BOISE, Idaho — Boise State Esports opened the PEC Spring Season with a hard-fought 3–2 loss to the University of Utah in a best-of-five Overwatch 2 series that featured constant momentum swings and tested both teams' composure. Despite coming up just short, the Broncos showed resilience throughout the night, setting an early tone for a competitive spring slate.
The series opened on Busan, where Utah controlled early engagements and dictated the pace on the control map. Boise State struggled to find clean openings as Utah secured key team fights and claimed the map 2–0 to take an early series lead.
Boise State responded with a stronger showing on King's Row, trading pushes and defensive holds throughout a tightly contested hybrid map. The Broncos kept pressure on Utah into the final phase, but Utah managed to close the map 4–3, extending its advantage to 2–0.
Facing elimination, Boise State found its footing on New Queen Street. The Broncos tightened their coordination, played with increased discipline in mid-fight engagements, and pushed the map the full distance. A composed defensive stand sealed a 1–0 victory, keeping the series alive and shifting momentum.
That momentum carried into Suravasa, where Boise State delivered its most complete performance of the night. In a back-and-forth flashpoint battle, the Broncos maintained pressure across multiple objectives and closed out a dramatic 3–2 win to force a decisive fifth map.
The series concluded on Circuit Royal, where both teams traded stretches of control on the escort map. Boise State remained competitive throughout, but Utah ultimately secured the final checkpoint to take the map, and the series, in a close finish.
WHATS NEXT:
The Broncos have a bye week, then a showdown with Baylor in Feb. 3rd.
