Broncos Dominate Spartans; Collect Fourth-Straight Victory

SAN JOSE, Calif. — The Broncos secured their fourth-consecutive win and defeated San Jose State, 89-58, on Tuesday night at Provident Credit Union Event Center.
Getting back to .500 in conference play, Boise State (13-8 overall, 5-5 Mountain West) was led by Drew Fielder, who totaled a team-high 16 points, eight rebounds and three assists. Andrew Meadow shot 7-for-12 from the field and scored 15 points.
Off the bench, Bhan Buom scored a career-high 11 points and was 3-for-3 from the field. Pearson Carmichael recorded 11 points of his own and added five boards in a reserve role, while Dylan Andrews also posted 11 points to go with four assists.
Leading the way for San Jose State (6-15 overall, 1-9 Mountain West), was Sadraque NgaNga, who tallied a team-high 15 points. Jermaine Washington had 13 points, and Colby Garland, the team's leading scorer, was limited to 10 points and four assists.
After missing its first five shot attempts to start the game, Boise State rattled off eight-consecutive points. Outrebounding San Jose State by four in the opening five minutes, the Broncos led, 8-6, upon reaching the first media timeout.
Trailing by one with 14:43 on the clock, Boise State's offense came alive. The Broncos benefitted from nine quick points by Carmichael, Buom and Aginaldo Neto to forge ahead by eight, the largest lead for either team in the half.
Overcoming the deficit, San Jose State tied the game on three occasions in the final seven-plus minutes but never regained the lead. Aided by 20 points in the paint and 15 from the bench, Boise State shot 50 percent (12-for-24) in the initial 20 minutes and led by three at the intermission.
To begin the second half, San Jose State knocked down their seventh three of the game and tied the game at 36. In response to the long ball, the Broncos scored 13 of the next 16 points and led, 49-39, with 14:11 remaining in the game.
From there, Boise State took full control of the game. Following the stoppage, the Broncos used a 14-5 stretch to push their lead to 19.
In the second half, Boise State outscored the Spartans 53-25 and surrendered just five rebounds in the period. The Broncos made 65.6 percent of their field goals and ultimately led by as many as 33.
Leading for nearly 34 of the 40 minutes, Boise State outpaced the Spartans 56-24 in paint points and 41-15 in bench production. Over the last three games, the Broncos have outscored their opponents by 89 points, equating to 29.7 average in that span.
