Broncos Drop Second-Consecutive Game

1/8/2026 12:30:00 AM | Men's Basketball

BOISE, Idaho — Boise State dropped its second-straight game, losing to Grand Canyon, 75-58, on Wednesday night inside ExtraMile Arena.

The Broncos (9-6, 1-3 MW) had two players who scored in double figures. Javan Buchanan scored a team-high 18 points and grabbed three rebounds while Drew Fielder scored 10 points on 4-of-9 shooting.

Jaden Henley led the way for Grand Canyon (9-5, 2-1 MW), pouring in a game-high 22 points to go with six rebounds. Makaih Williams had 16 points off the bench and Efe Demirel added 13 points, eight rebounds and two blocks.

Demirel sparked Grand Canyon's offense at the outset, scoring the first eight points of Wednesday's game. Missing its first four shots and collecting two points in the opening four-plus minutes, Boise State trailed by six upon reaching the under-16 media timeout.

Following a pair of free throws by Dominic Parolin, Fielder tallied the Broncos' first field goal at the 15:36 mark. The bucket sparked a quick 7-0 run, giving Boise State its first lead of the evening.

Despite making five of their first 18 shots, the Broncos found themselves up four with exactly seven minutes on the clock in the first half. Boise State's 19-15 lead quickly evaporated and turned into a seven-point deficit on the strength of a 15-4 run by the Lopes.

With just under five ticks left to play in the first half, Demirel collected an offensive rebound, scored on a putback layup and converted an old-fashioned three-point play to cap the frame. In total, Boise State made only seven field goals in the 20-minute session and trailed 37-27 at the intermission.

In similar fashion to the first half, Grand Canyon opened the second period by scoring the initial five points. The Lopes scored 10 of 12 points and increased their lead to 18.

Responding promptly, the Broncos answered with seven-consecutive points of their own. A long ball by Fielder and four made free throws pulled the team to within 11.

Moments later, Boise State pulled even closer as the offense began to find a rhythm. Buchanan and Pearson Carmichael registered seven quick points, making it a 51-45 game.

The Broncos sliced Grand Canyon's lead to four, but that's as close as they would get. The Lopes answered with an 8-0 run and extended their lead to 12.

Seesawing back-and-forth early on, the game featured six tied and three lead changes. Trailing for the majoring of the contest, Boise State only held the lead for five minutes and 40 seconds.
