BOISE, Idaho – Alvis Whitted has joined the Boise State coaching staff as the pass game coordinator and wide receivers coach, head coach Spencer Danielson announced on Friday.

Whitted joins the Broncos after serving as a senior offensive analyst at North Carolina State, where the Wolfpack finished 8–5 and secured a Gasparilla Bowl victory over Memphis.

"Coach Whitted has been in this game at a high level for a long time, and we're fired up to have him join this program," said Danielson. "He's an elite receivers coach. He also does a great job building relationships with players and connecting with them to help develop them on and off the field. Then you bring in his nine years as an NFL player, and he's going to be a great addition to Boise State."

Whitted, who played nine seasons as a wide receiver in the NFL, spent one season coaching wide receivers with the Green Bay Packers. He also brings significant familiarity with the West, having coached wide receivers at Utah from 2023–24 and Colorado State from 2012–18.

"I am extremely thankful and blessed for the amazing opportunity to work with such an elite program that is known for winning championships," Whitted said. "I'm ecstatic to work with Coach Danielson and his staff and I'm grateful for the opportunity to build and shape young men. I can't wait to get to work on The Blue!"

Whitted most recently coached at NC State, his alma mater, serving as a senior offensive analyst. There, he helped coach Spike Sowells Jr. to All-America honors as a true freshman after allowing only nine pressures across 216 pass-blocking snaps. He also coached running back Hollywood Smothers, who became the first Wolfpack running back to lead the ACC in rushing yards per game (85.4), and tight end Justin Joly, who tied the NC State program record for single-season touchdown receptions by a tight end (seven).

Prior to working at NC State, Whitted spent two seasons as the wide receivers coach at Utah. Under his leadership, three Ute receivers averaged more than 13.0 yards per reception in 2024. Dorian Singer tallied 53 catches for 702 yards, Brant Kuithe notched 35 receptions for 505 yards and Money Parks recorded 21 catches for 294 yards.

He spent three seasons as the wide receivers coach at Wisconsin (2020-22), developing receivers Skylar Bell, Chimere Dike and Keontez Lewis, all of whom averaged more than 14.0 yards per catch in 2022. During the 2021 season, he coached seniors Danny Davis, Kendric Pryor and Dike, who combined for 83 receptions, 1,166 receiving yards and six touchdowns. Each receiver averaged at least 13.0 yards per reception.

Whitted spent the 2019 season with the Green Bay Packers as the wide receivers coach. He coached Davante Adams to his third consecutive Pro Bowl appearance and helped the wideout set a Packers postseason franchise record with 160 receiving yards against Seattle in the NFC Divisional Round.

Before making the jump to the professional ranks, Whitted served as Colorado State's wide receivers coach from 2012–18. Under his guidance, the Rams produced the top three single-season receiving performances in program history, with Rashard Higgins, Michael Gallup, and Preston Williams earning All-America recognition. Gallup and Higgins were consensus first-team All-Americans and Biletnikoff Award finalists, while Williams garnered second-team All-America honors. All three players were selected in the NFL Draft.

Prior to his seven-year tenure at Colorado State, Whitted served as an offensive quality control assistant at UCLA in 2011. Whitted began his coaching career at his alma mater, Orange High School in Hillsborough, N.C., where he coached wide receivers for two seasons. He then served as the wide receivers coach at Millsaps College in 2010 before joining UCLA.

Whitted was selected by the Jacksonville Jaguars in the seventh round of the 1998 NFL Draft and went on to play nine seasons in the NFL with the Jaguars, Falcons, and Raiders. He compiled 74 receptions for 1,030 yards and six touchdowns, while also returning 21 kickoffs for 388 yards and a touchdown.

In four seasons at NC State (1993-97), Whitted recorded 29 receptions for 461 yards. His biggest impact came as a kickoff returner, returning 84 kickoffs for 1,929 yards and two touchdowns while averaging 23.0 yards per return. As of 2026, he ranks fourth in Wolfpack history in career kickoff return yards.
