Broncos Drop Overtime Contest to UNLV

2/13/2026 11:51:00 PM | Men's Basketball

BOISE, Idaho — Boise State dropped its second-consecutive game against UNLV, losing 86-83 in overtime on Friday night at ExtraMile Arena.

The Broncos (15-10 overall, 7-7 Mountain West) were led by Drew Fielder, who tied his career high with 27 points. He collected nine field goals in the contest and added six rebounds and two steals.

For the second-straight game Pearson Carmichael scored 16 points and added three rebounds and two assists. Dylan Andrews tallied 12 points and five assists in nearly 39 minutes of game action.

Dra Gibbs-Lawhorn paced all players and scored 36 points on 13-of-22 shooting to lead UNLV (13-12, 8-6). Kimani Hamilton notched 13 points, four rebounds and three assists, and Tyrin Jones pitched in with 12 points, five boards and four blocks.

The outset of Friday's game featured a slow offensive start for both teams. In the opening four-plus minutes, the two squads combined to make just three field goals, but Boise State led by four upon reaching the first media timeout.

Despite the slow start on offense, the Broncos' defense was stout. Boise State limited UNLV to three points while surrendering just one field goal in the initial seven minutes.

With 11:47 remaining in the first half, the Broncos pushed their lead to double figures. A 3-pointer by Fielder and a dunk by Ahrens gave Boise State a 17-6 advantage.

Following the under-eight media timeout, the Broncos created further separation. The Runnin' Rebels turned the ball over on consecutive possessions, leading to back-to-back threes by Carmichael and a 17-point lead.

In the first half, Boise State led by as many as 23 points, but UNLV closed the gap considerably over the final eight minutes. The Runnin' Rebels ended the period by scoring 20 of the final 28 points.

Across the 20-minute session, the Broncos shot exactly 50 percent from the field, with six of the 14 field goals coming from downtown. UNLV significantly cut into Boise State's lead, but the home team led 40-29 at the halfway mark.

The Runnin' Rebels picked up where they left off to begin the second half and inched closer. UNLV scored eight of the first 12 points to pull to within seven.

The Broncos, however, responded in kind with a run of their own. Boise State recorded a 14-4 spurt and re-upped its lead to 17 with under 12 minutes to play.

Not going away quietly, the Runnin' Rebels made it a two-point game with plenty of time on the clock. In the final minute of regulation, UNLV tied the game at 80 on a deep ball by Gibbs-Lawhorn, his sixth of the contest.

On the final two possessions, both Boise State and UNLV missed 3-pointers that would have been the go-ahead points. The Broncos' 23-point lead evaporated over the course of the game which sent the contest to overtime.

In the extra session, the Broncos managed just one field goal as a team and shot 25 percent from the floor in the five minutes. Boise State had a chance for a last-second heave as time expired, but the shot occurred after the buzzer.
