Boise, Idaho — Boise State Super Smash Bros. Ultimate responded in a big way on Monday night, earning a clean 2–0 victory over Kansas in a rematch that carried weight from last season's result. The win marked a composed, resilient performance from the Broncos, who flipped the script with preparation and timely execution.
The opening match featured tight back-and-forth play, with Kansas narrowly claiming the first two games by a single stock each. Boise State responded by raising the tempo and tightening its advantage play. Eric Madda and Starmis took control of the set, highlighted by a flawless game from Starmis, who closed out his opponent without dropping a stock to swing momentum back in the Broncos' favor.
The second match followed a similar pattern early, as Kansas again jumped out to a 2–0 lead and built an 8–3 advantage overall. Boise State refused to fold. Starmis once more shifted the momentum, turning the tide against Ristermice and putting pressure back on the Jayhawks. Madda then stepped up in the closing moments, forcing the fourth game into an 11–11 deadlock and sending the set to a tiebreaker — the Broncos' first of the season.
With the team huddled to decide the closer, Madda volunteered to run it back against Mander. The final pairing delivered another tense exchange, but Madda found the opening he needed, securing the knockout and the match for Boise State.
By closing both matches 2–0 on the same night, the Broncos delivered a statement performance and avenged last season's loss to Kansas. The result also provides valuable momentum as Boise State prepares to travel to Hawai'i for an in-person tournament before resuming PEC play.
