Broncos Make Season-High 15 3-Pointers in Win Over New Mexico

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — In front of over 14,000 fans in The Pit on Saturday night, Boise State won for the sixth time in its last seven games, defeating New Mexico, 91-90.
Dylan Andrews led Boise State (15-9 overall, 7-6 Mountain West) in scoring and poured in a career-high 33 points. He made nine field goals, including five 3-pointers, and was 10-for-10 at the free throw line.
Drew Fielder, who made a career-high five long balls, had 18 points and five rebounds, while Pearson Carmichael tallied 16 points and had a career-best eight rebounds in his second start of the season. Javan Buchanan pitched in with 13 points, six boards, two assists and one block.
New Mexico (18-6, 9-4) was led by Luke Haupt and team-high 30 points. He added six rebounds and four assists in the contest. Jake Hall registered 19 points on six made field goals, and Uriah Tenette collected 14 points, five rebounds and five assists off the bench.
The opening five minutes of Saturday's game featured a combined nine field goals and 25 points from both teams. After two ties and five lead changes in the short timeframe, Boise State trailed, 13-12, upon reaching the first media timeout.
Following the stoppage, New Mexico rattled off a 6-0 run and raced out to a seven-point lead, the largest by either team in the half. In response, the Broncos' offense began to click and the team tied the game at 33 with 4:38 remaining in the period.
Down the stretch, both teams seesawed back and forth with no more than three points of separation. Trailing by one on the final possession, Andrews, who led all players with 15 points in the frame, capped the session with a mid-range jumper and his sixth field goal.
Six Broncos scored in the first half, and collectively, Boise State shot 13-of-29, including making six of the final eight shot attempts. Despite New Mexico shooting over 50 percent from the field, Andrews' jumper as time expired gave the blue and orange a 43-42 advantage at the intermission.
At the outset of the second half, Fielder netted a pair of 3-pointers, putting the road team ahead by five. Four of Boise State's first seven field goals in the final 20 minutes were long balls by Fielder, who set a new single-game career high in that category.
The Broncos ultimately turned what was once a seven-point deficit into a nine-point lead with just under 15 minutes on the clock. Taking full advantage of the long ball, Boise State led until the final two minutes.
With 1:59 left to play in the game, New Mexico evened the score at 80 on Hall's third 3-pointer of the contest. On the ensuing possession, however, Buchanan stepped to the line after a foul and made a pair of free throws to put the Broncos back in front by two.
Buchanan's free throws turned out to be Boise State's game-winning points. Finishing the victory for the Broncos was Dylan Andrews who iced the game with eight free throws en route to his career high.
In total, the Broncos shot 46.3 from the field and 42.9 percent from three. Boise State 96.3 percent of its field goals attempts, signifying a career high.
