Broncos Collect Ninth-Straight Win

BOISE, Idaho – Boise State secured a decisive 63-35 victory over New Mexico in ExtraMile Arena, Saturday afternoon.

Boise State (19-5, 9-3 Mountain West) picked up its ninth-conference straight win, the first in a single season since the Broncos joined the MW. The Blue & Orange won the defensive battle as it kept New Mexico (16-8, 8-5) to the third-lowest opponent score in program history.

The Broncos opened the game by winning the tip and immediately got on the board with a jumper from Tatum Thompson. New Mexico responded nearly a minute later with a turnaround jumper from Joana Magalhaes for the Lobos' first points. After a three-minute scoring drought, Magalhaes knocked down a three to keep New Mexico within reach.

Another three minute drought followed for the Lobos before Alyssa Hargrove drained a triple to give New Mexico an 8-6 lead. Natalie Pasco answered for Boise State, burying a three to reclaim the lead and snap a six and a half minute scoring drought for the Broncos. Pasco notched another shot from beyond the arc late in the quarter, giving Boise State a 12-8 advantage after the first.

New Mexico opened the second quarter with a Hargrove jumper, but Emily Howard responded just 10 seconds later with a basket of her own. Freshmen Morgan Maldonado and Jayda Lewis each converted and-one opportunities as Boise State began to pull away. A steal and layup and-one by Hutton followed to cap a 12-0 run, extending the Broncos' lead to 25-15.

Mya Hansen reached the 1,000-career point milestone at the free throw line. After nearly six minutes without a point, Emma Najjuma ended New Mexico's drought with a layup. Boise State carried a dominant 28-17 lead into halftime.

Pasco opened the second half scoring with a three and followed it up with a steal and layup. The Broncos found an 11-0 run as the Lobos struggled to find the hoop. New Mexico finally got on the board at the 2:25 mark with a layup from Cacia Antonio, but the Broncos kept pulling away with a 46-21 lead heading into the fourth.

New Mexico opened the final quarter with baskets from Magalhaes and Hargrove, but Boise State quickly responded. Pasco knocked down a jumper and a three, Hooks answered with a triple, but Howard followed with a finish at the rim. Howard capped a 9-0Â run with free throws before Tyler Jones ended the scoring with a turnaround jumper in the paint. Boise State won 63-35.
