Garus Leads Broncos in Island Resort Classic

BARK RIVER, Mich. — Boise State men's golf concluded the Resort Island Classic in Michigan on Labor Day, finishing 11th in the 12-team tournament.
As a team, the Broncos shot 874 (+10), carding rounds of 296-287-291. Junior Trevor Garus and senior Dylan Rodgers made their Boise State debut, while freshman Justin Anderson, who competed as an individual, participated in his first career NCAA golf tournament.
Garus led the way for the Broncos, tying for seventh. Firing a 209 (-7) and carding a 70-69-70, Garus shot par or better on 48 of the 54 holes. His seventh-place finish marked the first time he's notched a top-10 finish, and his 209 set a personal best for lowest 54-hole tournament score, besting a 211 he totaled during the 2024-25 season as a freshman at UCLA.
Chase Gorder concluded the Island Resort Classic just outside the top 25, firing a 216 (E) and tying for 27th. Reese Knox and Luke Cushman were both 10-over and tied for 69th. Anderson, in his collegiate debut, was 9-over and tied for 66th, while Rodgers shot 231 (+15), good for 78th.
In Boise State's first round of the fall campaign, the team carded a 296 (+8) and was in 11th place following the first 18 holes. Collectively producing better results in Round 2, the Broncos shot 287 (-1) and were led by Garus and Gorder who fired a 69 and 71, respectively.
On Day 2, Boise State shot 3-over 291. Garus and Gorder kept the team afloat during the round, shooting a combined 3-under with seven birdies.
The Broncos defeated VCU by two strokes. Michigan, who won the Island Resort Classic by margin, claimed victory over West Virginia by 25 strokes.
