Allison Buck was promoted to Head Beach Volleyball Coach in July 2018 by Shawn Garus, Head Volleyball Coach. Buck will take over the day-to-day operation and running of the program. She will also be primarily responsible for travel, scheduling and recruiting beach only volleyball players, as well as coaching the beach players on a year-round basis.
Buck has spent the last two years as an assistant coach for both the Boise State indoor volleyball and beach volleyball teams. She has assisted in all aspects of both programs since her arrival on campus and has played a vital role in helping to build a beach program that just completed its fifth season this past spring.
Buck joined the Boise State volleyball staff on March 7, 2016. She served as the second assistant for the indoor team and the lone assistant for the Boise State beach volleyball program. Her duties included assisting with the day-to-day operations of the two programs, travel, on-court coaching and assisting with the organization and running of volleyball camps.
Â
Prior to Boise State, Buck worked for three years as the director of operations with the University of New Mexico volleyball team, where she played collegiately for the Lobos as an undergraduate from 2008-11.
She brought a wide variety of experience with her to Boise State. As the volleyball director of operations at New Mexico, she oversaw and coordinated administrative functions for the day-to-day operation of the team and program. Buck assisted with student-athlete volunteering and development activities, fiscal and budgetary management, facilities and resources management, NCAA compliance requirements and other special projects as assigned.
Prior to working for her alma mater, Buck had worked in various capacities for the New Mexico Juniors Volleyball Club of Albuquerque. She served as one of the club's head coaches throughout her collegiate career and continued after graduation. Buck also served as the club's facilities coordinator from 2012 through 2013, when she was hired by the Lobos volleyball program as the director of operations.
While with the New Mexico Juniors she assisted in teaching youth players the game's fundamentals and skills; helped organize and coordinate youth summer camps and instructed aspiring volleyball players both on a individual and group basis.
Â
Buck was a standout libero on the Lobo volleyball team from 2008-11, earning a number of accolades her junior and senior seasons, including American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) All-America honorable mention honors in 2011.
Buck also garnered first-team AVCA All-West Region recognition in 2011, as well as being a two-time All-Mountain West honoree (2010 and 2011). On the court, she set New Mexico's single-season record for digs with 561 (in 2011) as well as the program record for career digs with 1,630. Buck served as a team captain her senior year.
Buck excelled in the classroom and was a four-time Academic All-MW award recipient. She graduated in May 2012 with a bachelor of science degree in elementary education with a focus in social studies.
"I think Allison is the perfect person to lead our beach program as we grow here at Boise State," said Garus. "She has two years of experience of assisting me with the beach program. She knows the way the beach program fits in what we're doing with all volleyball on campus at Boise State. I think her ability to connect and train with the student-athletes is exceptional and I'm very excited to see what the future holds for her and the program."
