Boise Junior College Rated Underdogs in Clash at Pocatello Today
BOISE, Idaho – Odds were against the Boise Junior College football squad which left Boise Friday noon for Pocatello, where the Broncos will meet the University of Idaho, Southern Branch, Saturday. Coach Max Eiden took 24 men.
Â
On the basis of comparative scores the Junior College is the underdog. The Branch defeated the College of Idaho, 37 to 7, several weeks after the Coyotes had trimmed the Boise team, 32 to 0.
Â
The invasion of eastern Idaho is the second for the Broncos this year. Two weeks ago they were defeated by Ricks College at Rexburg, 7 to 0. Last week they whacked Eastern Oregon Normal school, 12 to 6, at Boise.
Â
"Give us a dry field," said Eiden, "and we may have a chance to show something against the Branch. At Rexburg we were all bogged down in the snow."
Â
Hoping for a lucky break or two, Eiden said the Broncos would fire passes from gong to gong, with powerhouse Gus Urresti, the thudding Basque, mixing up the system by driving into the line. Shaw and Anderson will do the passing.
Â
Tentative starting lineup includes Morgan at center; Nafatziger and Stanley at guards; Weber and Carpenter at tackle; Lippa and Carrier at ends; Shaw at quarter; Nalley and Stoddard at halves, and Urresti at fullback.
Â
Carmelo Uranga, end, left school last week to pilot planes for an airway company operating in Portland.
