Eiden Grooms Revised Team for Last Fray; Contest Starts at 8 o’clock This Evening on Public School Field; Students Celebrate Homecoming
BOISE, Idaho – Hard hit by scholarship which laid out two linemen and threatened removal of three backs, Boise Junior College thudded through the final workout Thursday evening for the Homecoming Game Friday night on Public School Field against Albion State Normal school's aerial raiders.
Â
It was no light scrimmage that Coach Max Eiden dished up for his squad. He was faced with the problem of rebuilding the club from stem to gudgeon and he set a galloping pace for two hours. Although still hoping that Shaw, Stoddard and Shelton will catch up a batch of incomplete student work by Friday noon, Eiden took no chances. He booked Dale Cantlin for starting quarter, pulled Griffin back from end to reserve quarter, and groom Anderson, a 200-pound passer, for an end.
Â
Carlisle, guard, and Harden, tackle, were definitely out of action because of low grades. They had not been playing regularly, but the coach said their absence from the reserve list would be keenly felt.
Â
With gaps fairly well patched, Eiden said his starting lineup would probably include Morgan at center; Piedmont and Stanley or Blue at guards; Carpenter, Weber, Pittard or Naftzigar at tackles; Lippa and Anderson or Griffin at ends; Cantlin at quarter; Nalley and Kidd or Carter at halfback, and Gus Urresti at fullback.
Â
Coach Orville "Haggerty" Hult and his Albion Teachers will exercise at the field Friday afternoon, but take no uniformed workout. The Panthers, who have lost only one game this year – to the Southern Branch – are reported in pink of condition, and sporting a dazzling pass attack which includes double and triple laterals. Hult is employing several systems he learned himself as a Burley High School player, and later as blocking halfback for the University of Idaho, where he graduated in 1930.
Â
While the Bronco team turned itself inside out in the last minute alignment, the student body seethed with excitement. Following their wooden warhorse, they rallied at Lemp triangle Thursday night for a bonfire, and danced in Talbot Gymnasium. Meanwhile tons of sawdust and gallons of oil were mixed on Table Rock for a night display, while lights are still out on Public School Field Friday night, giant initials will blaze from the sidehill at the kickoff, scheduled for 8 o'clock.
Â
Scores of alumni are expected for the game and the dance Friday evening at Talbot Gymnasium in their honor. The dance will be a ranch costume affair, carrying out the idea of the Bronco roundup.
Â
The game will be last for Boise Junior College and the final night battle for Boise.
