Broncos Plan Special Plays for Invaders; Snow Shoveled from Stands and Field Cleared but Soft; Contest Will Start at 3 This Afternoon
BOISE, Idaho – New plays, new plans and a new determination for a long-sought revenge will be thrown by the Boise Junior College Broncos against the Eastern Oregon Normal eleven when the two teams clash this afternoon on Public School Field.
Â
The normal crew arrived late Thursday night, the Broncos are ready, the field is in good shape and the fray will start at 3 o'clock.
Â
Junior College students have shoveled the snow off the grandstand seats, which will be dry Friday afternoon for the accommodation of fans – unless it snows again. The field has been cleared of snow and the sun's rays the past two days has softened the turf considerably. In fact, the field may be so soft as to slow the game slightly by causing a few slips where cleats fail to grip.
Â
Because of that softness, Coach Max Eiden for the past two days has been instilling new plays and a new system into the Broncos. A new "goose shift" has been developed that should startle the fans and the normal team if it does nothing else. Thursday night's practice was devoted to work on the shift, punting, passing and a few line plays.
Â
Coach Eiden said all Broncos were in shape for the contest. Gus Urresti, fullback who suffered a fractured leg early in the season, will not start but is likely to see action before the game is over. George Anderson has been working out at end for the past week and may use his 210 pounds at that position during the fray.
Â
Eiden said Thursday night a tentative starting lineup would put Morgan at center, Naftzger and Weber at tackles, Piedmont and Stanley at guards, Uranga and Lippa and ends, Cantlin at quarter, Kidd and Carter at halfback posts and Stoddard at fullback.
Â
The Eastern Oregon Normal, with headquarters in La Grande, is coached by Bob Quinn. The teachers took an easy victory last week over the powerful Southern Oregon Normal aggregation, 12 to 6. Earlier in the season they did a better job of holding the College of Idaho than did the Broncos. The College of Idaho won from the Teachers, 26 to 0, and form the Broncos, 31 to 0.
Â
Against Gooding College, the Teachers and Broncos stacked up evenly, each winning 18 to 0.
