Cross Country Teams Head to Sundodger Invitational

BOISE, Idaho The Boise State University men’s and women’s cross country teams head to Seattle, Wash., to compete in the 15th-annual Sundodger Invitational, Saturday.

 

More than 800 athletes from 45 teams will be competing at the event hosted by the University of Washington. The women’s 6,000-meter invitational race will begin at 10:25 a.m. (PST), and the men’s 8,000m invitational race is slated to start at 11:00 a.m. (PST).

 

Also scheduled are a women’s 6,000m open race beginning at 9:00 a.m. (PST), and a men’s 8,000m open race beginning at 9:40 a.m. (PST).

 

Results will be posted at broncosports.com following the race’s conclusion.

 

Last Year Ty Axtman, then a junior, posted the seventh-fastest time in Sundodger history last fall, only to finish second to UCLA’s Austin Ramos. With UCLA not in attendance, Axtman is the top returning finisher on the men’s side from 2005.

 

On the women’s side, all but three of the top 10 finishers from last year are returning to compete this weekend.

 

Last Week Broncos Ty Axtman and Breanna Sande were named the Western Athletic Conference men’s and women’s cross country Athletes of the Week, Sept. 11, after capturing the individual titles at the fourth-annual Hampton Inn and Suites Fall Harrier Classic.

Axtman, a senior from Elma, Wash., posted a six-kilometer time of 18-minutes, 36.71-seconds, .28-seconds ahead of All-American teammate Forest Braden. The duo led the Broncos to a first-place finish, gathering 26 points.

Sande, a sophomore from Coeur d'Alene, Idaho, won the women’s four-kilometer race at the with a time of 14:40.80, four seconds ahead of her nearest competitor.
