Broncos Fall to Air Force, 91-80

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – The Boise State men’s basketball team fell 91-80 at Clune Arena Saturday, the first time this season the Broncos have dropped back-to-back games.
The Falcons (10-6, 2-2 MW) were led by Michael Lyons, who scored a career-high 37 points.
Air Force led 20-16 with 12-minutes, 11-seconds remaining in the opening half, but an 11-0 run from the Broncos (13-4, 1-2 MW) put Boise State in front by seven (29-20).
Air Force responded by outscoring the Broncos 27-10 for the rest of the half, and entered intermission with a 47-37 advantage.
Boise State cut its deficit to eight in the opening minute of the second period, but a 7-0 run by the Falcons pushed their lead back to double figures, and led by 10-or-more for the rest of the game.
The Broncos’ Ryan Watkins posted his second-straight double-double, leading the team with a career-high 24 points and 13 rebounds. He also added a career-high three blocks.
Boise State shot 47.4 percent from the floor (27-of-57), and outrebounded the Falcons 32-30. But Air Force went 54.4 percent from the floor (31-of-57), including a 50-percent clip from beyond the arc (8-of-16).
Air Force also went 21-of-23 (.913) from the free throw line, while the Broncos knocked down just 18-of-28 (.643).
Derrick Marks scored 17 points, all in the second half, and Anthony Drmic knocked down five 3-pointers en route to 19 points.
Boise State played without junior guard Jeff Elorriaga, who missed the game with a concussion. He ranked fifth-nationally in 3-point field goal percentage (.491) and had not missed a game this season.
The Broncos will host Fresno State Wednesday (Jan. 30) at Taco Bell Arena. Tip is scheduled for 6 p.m.
