CHICAGO - Boise State redshirt junior Demarcus Lawrence was named to the midseason watch list for the 2013 Ted Hendricks Defensive End of the Year Award, the Ted Hendricks Foundation announced recently.

Lawrence is one of 18 student-athletes on the midseason list, and the only individual from the Mountain West.

Lawrence has 8.5 sacks this season, and his average of 1.1 per game ranks tied for fifth-nationally and leads the MW. He also ranks sixth-nationally and second in the league in tackles-for-loss, averaging 1.6 per game (13.0).

He has twice been named the MW Defensive Player of the Week in 2013.

Against Nevada (Oct. 19), Lawrence recorded a career-high 3.5 sacks, the most in a single game in the NCAA this season, and the most by a Bronco since Chris Wing had 4.0 against Portland State, Sept. 7, 1996. In his two seasons with the Broncos, Lawrence has 18.0 sacks, the 10th-most in a career in Boise State history.

Additionally, Lawrence blocked two field goals against Southern Miss (Sept. 28), one of only two individuals in the NCAA with multiple blocks in a single game in 2013.

On-field performance, exceptional winning attitude, leadership abilities, contributions to school and community and academic preparedness are some of the criteria used to determine the Ted Hendricks Award recipient.

The award committee will narrow the list of candidates to between four and six in late November, and the winner will be announced, Dec. 11.
