Bates, Flannigan Capture Mountain West Titles

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - Boise State seniors Mackenzie Flannigan and Emma Bates earned two Mountain West titles for the Broncos, Saturday, in the final day of the 2014 Mountain West Indoor Track and Field Championships. The pair led the Bronco women to a fifth-place finish with 65-points, while the men placed sixth with 34-points at the Air Force Academy Cadet Field House.
Flannigan raced to the title as well as a school record in the 60-meter dash, besting her own former record with a time of 7.46-seconds. She went on to place second in the 200-meters with a time of 24.32-seconds.
Bates won the women's 3000-meter title in a championship and Cadet Field House record time of 9:28.18, a time that sits sixth in the nation after altitude conversions.
Senior Hayli Bozarth captured her second all-conference honor of the meet, placing second in the shot put after breaking her own school record with a mark of 51-9.25 (15.78m).
Also faring well in the field events, Jasmyn Jewett jumped a career-best of 40-11 (12.47m) to place fourth., while Jordan Ward cleared a season-best of 5-7.25 (1.71m) to place fifth in the high jump.
Ryan Sanders picked up the men's top finish of the day, placing second and earning all-conference honors in the triple jump. The junior jumped 49-7.75 (15.13m), while his teammate Dominique Drayden jumped 47-11.25 (14.61m) to place eighth.
Jordin Andrade scored for the men in the 400-meters, clocking a time of 49.13 to place sixth. In the men's mile Drew O'donoghue-McDonald and Kyle Merritt placed seventh and eighth, respectively, clocking times of 4:22.99 and 4:23.14. Justin Malnes earned an additional point for the Broncos with his eighth-place finish in the 60-meter hurdles (8.28).
New Mexico captured both the men's and women's titles, scoring 166.50-points and 148.50-points, respectively.
The majority of the Bronco track and field program now look toward the 2014 outdoor season. Bates is the only Bronco to hold a qualifying spot for the NCAA National Indoor Championships. She will travel to Albuquerque, N.M., March 14-15 to compete in the 3000-meters and 5000-meters.
