Broncos Tied For 15th At Ka'anapali

LAHAINA, Maui â€" Boise State men's golf remained in a tie for 15th place after Saturday's second round at the Ka'anapali Collegiate Classic in Maui despite shooting 3-over (287) as a team, a 12-stroke improvement from Friday's opening round.
Freshman Mason Schulze shot a 69 (-2) Saturday, helped by an eagle on the par-5 ninth hole. For the tournament, Schulze and fellow freshman Connor Johnstone are each tied for 39th and lead the Broncos at 2-over. Johnstone shot even-par Saturday on the par-71 Royal Ka'anapali Course, balancing four bogeys and a double-bogey with six birdies.
"Mason finished well, as did Donny and Connor. The course was much more score-able today and we struggled to capitalize on it until late in the round," said Boise State head coach Dan Potter. "Tomorrow is our last round of the fall season and hopefully we're saving our best for last."
Donny Hopoi also shot even par Saturday, with four birdies and four bogeys, trailing Johnstone and Schulze by two strokes at 4-over. Freshman Brian Humphreys carded a 76 for the second-straight day, while senior Kyle Mitsunaga shot 84.
Georgia leads the team competition heading into Sunday's final round at 18-under. The Bulldogs shot 18-under (266) on Saturday, with two players, including tournament co-leader Grayson Sigg, shooting 64 with a third carding a 65. Sigg is tied with Kansas' Chase Hanna atop the leaderboard at 9-under.
