Martin Finishes in Top 10 at MWC

RANCHO MIRAGE, Calif.- Senior Boise State women's golfer Samantha Martin concluded her final conference championships as a Bronco with a birdie on the 18th hole of the par-72, 6,291-yard Dinah Shore Championship Course at Mission Hills Country Club, Wednesday.
Martin (76-76-72 - 224, +8) shot even-par in the third and final round - the fourth lowest individual score on the day - to move five spots up the leaderboard into a tie for 10th.
The tie for 10th place is Martin's best finish at a Mountain West Championship since she finished tied for seventh as a sophomore in 2014.
The top-10 finish was the 14th of Martin's career. She notched a top-20 finish in every tournament this spring, pushing her school record for top-25 finishes to 29.
"I'm glad the seniors played better today so they could go out on a positive note," Boise State head coach Nicole Bird said. "Sam has had an outstanding career at Boise State and it was fun to see her end the championships with a birdie on 18."
Junior Genevieve Ling joined Martin in the top 20, finishing in a tie for 19th place - her best finish at the MW Championships.
Ling shot 229 through the three rounds (75-78-76, +13) and had 37 pars over the three days of competition.
Boise State finished eighth in the team standings with a combined score of 926 (312-313-301, +62).
Senior Sammie Pless (79-77-74 - 230, +14) led the Broncos with seven birdies during the tournament, and used a strong third-round score of 74 to move eight spots up the leaderboard into a tie for 21st.
Senior McKenzie Ford (82-82-79 - 243, +27) and junior Oceane Pelloille (85-83-82 - 250, +34) rounded out the scoring for Boise State.
The Broncos will await word on whether an individual will earn a bid to NCAA Regional, where 18 teams and six individuals will compete at each of the four sites - Alabama, Texas A&M, Stanford and LSU - May 5-7.
The regional fields will be announced on Monday, April 25.
Ling is one of two Broncos - Acey Erlandson in 2000 - to have competed in an NCAA Regional. She did so after notching seven top-25 finishes and four top-10 finishes in the 2014-15 season.
Martin is averaging a school-record 74.03 this season - lower than Ling's 74.07 of 2014-15 - and has eight top-25 and three top-10 finishes this season, including a victory at the BYU Entrada Classic, March 14-15.
Ling is averaging 74.79 with seven top-25 finishes and three top-10 finishes this season.
