Boise State Opens Season In Wisconsin With Badger Invitational

WHAT'S NEXT: Boise State begins the 2026-27 season with the Badger Invitational, September 13-15. Hosted at the University Ridge Golf Course in Madison, Wisconsin, the tournament will feature three rounds of stroke play, starting at 8 a.m. MT, Sunday.
 
THE FIELD: Boise State, Wisconsin (host), Bradley, Colorado, Delaware, FIU, Illinois, Iowa, Iowa State, Michigan, New Mexico State, Notre Dame, Northwestern, Sam Houston, Washington State, Western Kentucky.
 
THE RISE OF CHUNG: Leia Chung, a NCAA Regional Individual Qualifier and Mountain West Champion returns after an unprecedented 2025-26 season. She accumulated four top-10 finishes, including three tournament titles. The Wahiawa, Hawaii, native holds the school's lowest career scoring average (72.88) and became the third Bronco in school history to qualify as an individual for the NCAA Regional. She was also the recipient of the Kim Moore Spirit Award, presented to a student-athlete or coach who exemplifies a great spirit toward the game of golf, a positive attitude on and off the golf course, being a role model for her team and mental toughness in facing challenges
 
YEAR SIX AT THE HELM: Head coach Kailin Downs is in her sixth season leading Boise State. Last season, Downs guided the Broncos to school records for single-round score (276, -12) and 36-hole score (561, -15) at the New Mexico State Golf Iconic Classic. Since Downs took over in 2021, the Broncos have notched four of the top five single-season scoring averages in program history, including a program-record 293.34 in 2023-24.
 
WOLVERINE TO BRONCO: Senior Chloe Jang will make her first appearance as a Bronco this weekend after transferring from Utah Valley. Jang earned All-WAC Second Team in her 2025-26 season with the Wolverines. Playing in all 11 events last season, she earned her season-best at the Wolverine Invitational, (Sept. 8-9) where she carded a 215 (-1).
 
IN THE RECORD BOOK: Teal Matsueda and Jillian Hui are noticeably featured in the Boise State record book. Matsueda holds the second-highest career scoring average with a 73.77 and Hui follows in seventh with a 75.63. Hui is tied for third for individual low round, shooting a 66 (-6) on Oct. 21, 2024 at The Clash at Boulder Creek Invitational, while Matsueda is tied for sixth shooting a 67 (-5) on Oct. 13, 2025 at the NMSU Golf Iconic Classic.
 
THE 2026-27 SQUAD: Boise State returns five players from the 2025-26 roster: Leia Chung, Jaime Hards, Jillian Hui, Teal Matsueda, and Callia Ward. Two freshmen joined the Broncos roster this season: Eva Becerril and Alice Koontz. The roster is rounded out by Utah Valley transfer Chloe Jang.
