Pearson's Glove Saves Bronco Win

SAN DIEGO - Boise State second baseman Shaelee Pearson dove to stop Samantha Camello's would-be single in the hole between first and second, and made the throw to first for the out from her stomach to strand San Diego State's tying run at third and close the Broncos' 3-2 series-opening win over the Aztecs.
Frankie Orlando opened the Aztec seventh with a walk from Bronco starter Nicole Wilson, and pinch-runner Katie Byrd was moved to second on a sacrifice bunt by Sam Vlot. Boise State put Paige Reimann into the circle to close it out, and she got Stefania Aradillas to ground to third before allowing Byrd to third on an illegal pitch to Zaria Meshack.
Meshack would then hit a chopper back to Reimann, who fielded above her head and fired to first too late to get the Aztec speedster. However, Byrd held at third, and the Broncos were gifted a second chance to end the game, which Pearson did with her spectacular play at second.
For Reimann, she earned her first-career save by getting the final two outs, while Wilson improved to 7-10 after allowing just three hits and striking out one. On the offensive side, Teauna Hughes' two doubles and two RBI paced the Broncos.
Freshman Rebekah Cervantes hit her team-leading 13th home run of the season in the first to give Boise State (14-36, 6-16 MW) an early 1-0 lead, and Hughes provided RBI doubles in the third and fifth to add the second and third Bronco runs.
Hughes' first RBI double, into the left-field corner, scored Izzy Serrano from first with two out in the third to put the Broncos up 2-0. San Diego State pulled to within a run on a one-out double steal that scored pinch-runner Aris Metcalfe and put Jaylene Ignacio at third on a throwing error at the plate, but Wilson get help in stamping out the rally as Makenzie Sullivan nabbed Frankie Orlando's liner at third and tapped the bag for the double play.
Tatiana Sorokina and Serrano led off the Bronco fifth with single, and Sorokina came around on Hughes' double to left-center.
The Aztecs (28-22, 10-12 MW) made it 3-2 in the sixth as Sydnee Cable scored on a wild pitch after a tripling off a bloop that went off the tip of the glove of a diving Kayla Clausen in right-center.
