Box Score

BOISE, Idaho â€" Boise State went back-and-forth with San José State in Sunday's series finale but in the end the Spartans overcame a one-run deficit and outscored the Broncos, 12-1, over the final three innings to finish their sweep with a 14-4 win at Dona Larsen Park.

Boise State (13-36, 5-16 MW) travels to Southern California for the final weekend of the 2016 season, visiting San Diego State for a three-game set next Thursday-Saturday (May 12-14).

Freshman Morgan Lamb hit her sixth home run of the season in the fourth inning to put the Broncos in front, 3-2, but San José State answered with three runs in the fifth, four more in the sixth and five in the seventh to break the game open.

Aylssa Martinez walked and Jessica Madrid singled to open the Spartan fifth, with Jessie Hufstetler tying the game with an RBI double to left-center. Sacrifice flies from Madison Aurin and Emma Entzminger against Bronco starter Nicole Wilson brought Madrid and Hufstetler home as San José State took a 5-3 lead.

In the sixth, Martinez, Madrid and Hufstetler again started the rally for the Spartans, each reaching base to load them up with one out. After Aurin's sacrifice fly to left scored Martinez, Taylor Purdy delivered the big shot, homering to center to open it up to 9-3 in favor of the Spartans.

An inning later, Madrid delivered a three-run homer of her own off of Paige Reimann to make it 12-4, and Aurin followed a Hufstetler single with a two-run shot to right to cap the day's scoring.

Madrid went 3-for-4 with the three-run homer to lead San José State (25-24, 14-7 MW), while Purdy went 1-for-2 and also had three RBI in the contest. Aurin went 2-for-3 with a homer and four RBI while Martinez had a hit and two RBI and scored three runs.

Wilson took the loss for the Broncos, giving up nine runs on seven hits with eight walks.

For the Broncos, Rebekah Cervantes led the way with two home runs and three RBI while Lamb was 2-for-2 with her solo homer. Cervantes' two-run shot in the first tied the game at 2-2 after Martinez had put the Spartans in front in the top half of the frame with a two-run homer of her own. The Bronco freshman hit her second homer of the game, a solo shot to left-center, in the sixth.

Spartan starter Collette Riggs improved to 8-4 with the win, going five and two-thirds innings allowing four runs on five hits.
